Demonstrating and Validating the Sprint

A 59 Seconds Agile Article

This article provides an ‘Introduction to Successful Delivery with Scrum’ and looks to discuss the process for Demonstrating and Validating the Sprint

Successful Delivery with Scrum

Another tool to keep in mind as you’re developing is respecting the timebox. Just like finding the appropriate physical tools helps reduce wasted time in your process, the timebox helps keep people focused in meetings.

Many aspects of agile project development are timeboxed; sprints can be one to six weeks long, while daily stand-up meetings are fifteen minutes. By sticking to the allotted timebox for each of these events, your team will be able to practice focusing only on what’s essential.

Your team won’t be forced to spend hours and hours in unproductive meetings that seem like they only move in circles. Instead, they’ll be able to gather the essential information they need and move on to applying it to their development. Your team is your most valuable asset in the development process. Timeboxing keeps this asset free to continue creating value for your customers at a steady pace. Remember, proper preparation leads to the successful delivery of products.

User Stories Applied

A 59 Seconds Agile Book Review

User Stories Applied by Mike Cohn is one of our favourite books on Agile User Stories. The book starts with an overview into user stories, and details what a user story is and the different aspects of them. He then discusses how to go about writing a user story, and provides details of the INVEST criteria that can be used to determine if the story is meeting all of its objectives. Next Mike gives an in depth discussion of who user stories are written for and where to begin when gathering the details for them. The book then discusses acceptance testing user stories, including how to go about specifying these criteria and the responsibilities of the development team and customers during this process.
