Successful Delivery with Scrum

Now that you’ve established clear channels of communication and are working well with your team and stakeholders, it’s time to consider clarity. It’s very important to be able to visualize and keep clear in your minds what the product is going to be.

Perhaps one of the issues you’ve dealt with in your current system of product development is that no one seems to know exactly what the product is going to look like when it’s finished, or what it’s going to do. Maybe everyone has a different understanding of the product.

The success of your project depends on how well thoughts and requirements are communicated between the people involved in the project. Frequent communication with your team and communicating clearly will keep your team to align with the project goals.

Remember, proper preparation leads to the successful delivery of products.

User Stories Applied by Mike Cohn is one of our favourite books on Agile User Stories. The book starts with an overview into user stories, and details what a user story is and the different aspects of them. He then discusses how to go about writing a user story, and provides details of the INVEST criteria that can be used to determine if the story is meeting all of its objectives. Next Mike gives an in depth discussion of who user stories are written for and where to begin when gathering the details for them. The book then discusses acceptance testing user stories, including how to go about specifying these criteria and the responsibilities of the development team and customers during this process.
